In Prescott, Arizona, it may freeze at night in the winter, but daytime temperatures average in the 40s and 50s, creating a perfect climate for mid-day outdoor activities. Prescott is located in Yavapai County, which is home to many trails and large expanses of forest. Prescott’s winter temperatures do require outdoor adventurers to wear layers, but the city receives minimal snowfall, making hiking trails and lake-access open almost all year long. At Prescott Dentistry, we love to encourage our patients to enjoy healthy outdoor activities. Some of our favorite outdoor activities include:

  • Visiting Watson Lake. Watson Lake is immediately outside of Prescott, Arizona and is a large reservoir. This reservoir is a large body of water surrounded by granite dells—large boulders and exposed bedrock which have eroded into dramatic and unusual rock formations. Watson Lake is beautiful and unlike anything else in Arizona. At Watson Lake, you can take a boat or kayak out, have a picnic, or hike the trail that runs around the perimeter of the lake.
  • Golfing at any of the nearby country clubs, such as Antelope Hills Golf Course. There are many golf clubs in Prescott that offer day passes to the public. Many of the courses are near man-made lakes, close to the mountains, or on the edge of the forest, making your golfing experience highly enjoyable.
  • Visiting the Heritage Park Zoological Society. This small Prescott zoo is home to a large variety of animals. The zoo offers a chance to see animals from all over the world while enjoying time outside. All of the animals at the zoo have been rescued from a variety of situations and now have a happy home in the heart of Prescott.

Make sure to wear proper outdoor shoes for any winter hikes or activities, as the ground may develop ice early in the morning or late in the evening. While you’re outside working on your physical health, don’t forget about your dental health! In the cooler winter months, it’s tempting to grab a nice hot cup of tea or cocoa, but these sugary treats can discolor your teeth and promote cavities. Proper flossing and brushing are an important part of preventative care and are important to maintaining good oral health. We hope to see you outside as you enjoy the beautiful outdoors in Prescott, AZ this new year!
