Tired of Hiding Crooked Teeth? Here’s How to Fix Them

Ever since they hit the market in 2000, Invisalign clear aligners have been growing in popularity. They’re comfortable, convenient, and barely noticeable. They’re also one of the best ways to correct misalignments and fix crooked teeth.

So if you’ve been hiding your smile, perhaps it’s time for a change. Here’s how Invisalign can give you straighter teeth and a smile to be proud of.

Don’t Hide Your Smile!

Did you know that smiling can improve your mood? Your facial movements are part of the input your brain uses to process your emotions. When you smile, your brain releases hormones that make you feel happier, relieving stress and anxiety.

And since smiles are contagious, they can make the people around you feel happier, too. One study from Sweden found that people will automatically smile back when they see a smiling face—in fact, it takes a conscious effort not to smile back when someone else smiles at you.

So when your barista flashes you a smile when she hands you your favorite coffee, don’t be afraid to smile back! And if you’re embarrassed about having crooked teeth, why not schedule an Invisalign consultation?

How to Get Straighter Teeth with Invisalign

Crooked teeth are one of many problems that Invisalign can fix. It can also correct minor underbites and overbites, overcrowding, and gaps between teeth. If your teeth are extremely crooked, you might need to get traditional metal braces. However, most people—teens included—are eligible for Invisalign.

It all starts with a consultation. If our dentists determine that Invisalign is right for you, we’ll take digital scans of your mouth and create a set of custom aligners. You’ll wear each set for a few weeks, then change to a new one that is slightly different, to make your teeth shift gradually into their new alignment.

You’ll need to come in for an exam periodically, so that we can make sure your aligners are working correctly, and so you can pick up your next few sets of aligners. But as long as you’re wearing them properly, you can have a totally new smile in 12 months or less!

Invisalign for Back-to-School

For teens and college students, the summer is the perfect time to start your Invisalign treatment. That way, you can get used to wearing your aligners and establish a new oral care routine before school starts up again.

Fixing crooked teeth with Invisalign takes a bit of commitment—you have to wear the aligners all the time, even when you’re sleeping. You should only remove them to eat and drink or brush your teeth. So if you’re a frequent snacker, or if you normally enjoy sodas or energy drinks throughout the day, you’ll need to make a few changes to your habits.

You’ll also need to clean your aligners whenever you brush your teeth to make sure they don’t get stained and turn yellow. Taking good care of your aligners will keep your teeth healthier and help the realignment process go more smoothly.
